A prompt response to decompression illness or stroke is essential to a positive outcome for the patient. Stroke is the third-leading cause of death and the leading cause of long-term disability (American Heart Association) and decompression illness is one of the most serious diving-related injuries. In this course, you will learn how to conduct a neurological assessment to rapidly recognize stroke and DCI symptoms. You will learn how to help convince patients of the need for emergency care as patients suffering from stroke or DCI may be in denial about the seriousness of the condition. You will also learn how to conduct a full, repeated neurological assessment to provide essential data to emergency services - information that may be critical for EMS and doctors to make rapid treatment decisions for the patient.
